How to Break into Luxury Real Estate

Ah, the glamorous life! If breaking into luxury real estate is on your vision board, pay close attention. Today I’m going to share some insight on how you can become a successful luxury real estate agent.

We’ve all gazed upon stunning mansions or sprawling estates, and then - lets be honest - we’ve hopped on our calculators and estimated what our commission would look like. And it looks NICE.

So, how can you brand yourself so that when people think of luxury, they think of YOU?

Here’s some actionable tips so you can begin.

Location, Location, Location: Familiarize yourself with the most sought-after luxury neighborhoods in your area. Understand the amenities (Country Clubs, Schools, upscale Shopping, Restaurants, Entertainment, etc.) It’s crucial to have a good grasp on the community so you can better match clients with their dream homes.

Mentorship: Seek guidance from seasoned luxury real estate agents. Study them! Learning from their experiences can help you to better navigate this new, opulent real estate world. Better yet, if you have the opportunity to shadow someone, DO IT! Notice how purposefully they do everything- from the way they dress, to the way they network, market themselves, market their listings, and more.

Networking is key: Seriously. Don’t forget this part. Rubbing shoulders with other industry professionals, attending upscale events, joining organizations, etc- is a great way to build a robust network of high net-worth individuals. This can and WILL open doors to opportunities for you.

Market yourself: Make sure to produce specific marketing pieces that focus on luxury, and create content that tells people that YOU are the go-to for luxury real estate. You can do this by showcasing higher-end transactions and clients that you’ve worked with, demonstrating your passion for higher-end finishes, sharing (via social media) luxury properties around town, etc. Make sure you tell people (in-person, via social, e-mail marketing, & more)- that you’re a luxury expert!

Dress for the job! This is so important. Not only do you need to act the part, you need to dress the part, too! Your networking will help with this. You can emulate the higher-end clientele and realtors that you aspire to work with/be like!

Patience and Persistence: Understand that shifting into the luxury real estate world is something that will take time. Just like anything else pertaining to your career goals, be prepared for a windy journey filled with ups and downs. But if you remain persistent in your pursuit of excellence… it’s only a matter of time!
